Mr. Ian Ramsden F IDM
Director of Strategy
Direct Solution
Ian Ramsden is Director of Strategy at Direct Solutions Int. Ltd, the largest direct marketing agency is Sri Lanka.
He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Direct Marketing in London where he is also a Faculty Lecturer on Customer Relationship Management, an Examinations Board Member and recipient of the Educator of the Year award.
He has chaired and participated in numerous international seminars on direct marketing including being Chairman of World Loyalty Conference in Dubai in 2005.
His father was a Master Printer and Typographer in York, UK and Ian was hand proofing wooden block images at the age of 5, so he has print in the blood.
He is keenly aware of the responsibilities of the printing industry because as he says "The printed image is the first impression the potential customer has of the product being sold. Whether it is a newspaper ad or packaging the quality of that image sets the tone of the future relationship the customer will have with the brand. Get that wrong and you can lose the sale no matter how good the salesman is"
Ian brings a wealth of experience to Ingrin Institute from briefing the creative work to judging the printed product that is placed before customers. He has probably ordered more print in his 35 years in marketing than most people in Sri Lanka and expects high standards from start to finish.
Mr. S. Donald E. Gaminitillake (Dip. B. E)
Mr. Gaminitillake, a student of S. Thomas' College, Mt. Lavinia, went to Japan after his Advance levels. He was able to pursue his higher studies in Japan. While working during the day, he studied for a night diploma course in the Junior College of Engineering, University of Chiba, from which he passed out with a B. E. degree in Image Science Technology.
After this, he spent two years at the Tokyo Metropolitan Industrial Technology Center, studying Thick-inked Screen Printing with Highly Relieved Stencils. Having married in 1980, Mr. Gaminitillake and his wife spent the next twenty years working in Japan. During his years in Japan, working for Toko Printing Company Limited, his experience has been remarkably broad-ranging; including business management, technical supervision, the handling of international and multi-national clients, and the heading of the Department for IT management; and is thus extremely well versed in all aspects of the industry. He eventually become C.E.O. of its pre-press department.
After returning to Sri Lanka, he faced a problem common to many such professionals - to find a slot to fit into. The Country's small printing industry has few openings, and it is common to find under qualified and unprofessional people occupying such posts.
"There is a high degree of insecurity at the top. They don't want to hire true professionals because there is an underlying fear that their shortcomings would be exposed."
Today he has been selected as consultant to the Ingrin Institute of Printing and Graphic by CEO Mr. Ananda Wickramaratne to develop the standers for Printing Industry in Sri Lanka
